Taking care of your battery
Your Volvo’s 12v battery ensures your starter motor operates smoothly in all conditions. It also powers various other electrical systems in your car such as lights, power outlets, etc. Make sure you help to maintain its lifespan by taking some simple actions.
The life of the battery is shortened if it becomes discharged repeatedly. It is also affected by other factors such as driving conditions and climate. The battery’s starting capacity will decrease gradually with time and it, therefore, needs to be recharged if the car is not used for a longer time, or when it is only driven short distances.
To maintain your Volvo car battery and maximise its lifespan, we recommend a minimum of 15-minutes driving per week, with long drives where possible. Alternatively, the battery can be connected to a battery charger with automatic trickle charging. It is important to ensure your battery is managed in this way to maintain its manufacturer's warranty.
